What Laundry?

Lovely weekend! Nothing useful got done.

Saturday my dad came to visit. There was talk of conspiracies and cover-ups. I also learned that he and my mother bought the first house they lived in as well as the apartment in Argentina thanks to an accident he had at work. Apparently, while inspecting some cables, he slipped and fell. From a catwalk. Onto his head. There's a scar; he showed it to me. I had never notice it before, despite the fact that it is in the middle of his forehead. Yes, we were tight-knit like that.

Then I went and saw Saved. It comes highly recommended from me! I went to a private Christian school until 8th grade, and this send-up is so spot on, it was a total trip down memory lane. From the one very familiar bad girl (she’s Jewish, but has been expelled from every other school in town), to the trying-too-hard-to-be-cool pastor and principal (Let’s get down with God!!!), the characters were hilarious and fun to adore or hate accordingly.

Sunday there was a barbecue at Rina’s. She and Doug really pulled out the stops! Highlight: I got to savor the Famous Spinach Dip (Famous because I say so!!!). From ceviche and carne asada, to lovely cheeses with grapes and sausage, the spread was awesome. There was also wine. Lots of wine. The lesson I learned this weekend, is not to drink and then try to make fruit salad.

Monday I went antiquing with my friend, Mr. Private (I call him that because he doesn’t want his name in the blog), in Olde (the extra “e” makes it bygone-tyme-a-licious!) Town Orange, looking for an art deco liquor cabinet. We didn’t find one, but this place had tons of cool stuff. Cool stuff that I can never have as long as I live in a little box. So, if anyone knows where Mr. Private can find one of these cabinets, please give me a shout out. And if anyone is looking for cool stuff and does not live in a box, I highly suggest the area for furniture shopping. There are tons of antique malls, and a nifty soda fountain/drugstore where you can eat at the counter. I loved it!

Then I even got into the Purple and Gold spirit. With neighbors as enthusiastic as mine (barbecue for the last two games, a trend likely to continue), it’s impossible to remain uninterested.

And tonight I am going to see the new movie all about my dead boyfriend, Buk. It's at the NuArt. More on that tomorrow!
