I Just Remembered!

I almost forgot
what it felt like
to make sure
someone
deserved me

You performed
a bizarre
lobotomy
with your words
and removed
my sense
of self-worth

I found myself
apologizing
for things I
hadn't even done
and looking for ways
to submit
to prove
I was yours
without reservation

But the haze was lifted
by a memory
by the proof
I once had a standard
(and a high standard
at that)
and how it felt
to be deserved
earned
cherished
cared for

I almost forgot
but not quite
