Overhaul
July 23, 2005 05:15 PM

So it's just over three years since poethelena.com officially started including a blog. And not very many changes in that time. Well, ok, no changes. No sidebar, no blogroll, no stickers (or stamps, or whatever the hell they're called), no feed (although I think there's one, just index.xml at the end of my url). No gimmicks, bells, or whistles. And for a while, I was okay with that.

But I'm starting to have blog envy. I need advice. I've been using MT 2.661. I think simply upgrading would be the simplest way to go about things, but have no clue how to do it.

So I'm reaching out to you, lip trembling, asking for your help.

You can do all of that with your existing MT installation, if you're comfortable doing some coding. The way I have it set up on my blog is that each little feature -- the blog, the moblog, the diary, the blogroll -- is a separate blog, with its own page just like your blog, and then I have a master page that sort of glues them all together using server side includes, which is actually the easiest part to learn. There's no actual reason to upgrade to the latest MT unless you really want the anti-comment spam and -trackback spam features, which don't seem to be a problem you have.

Alternatively, if you don't want the hassle, you can substitute money for time by using a service like TypePad (http://www.typepad.com).
