Ashes to Ashes
I’ve had it.
Yes
and
Finally.
The last not-nail in your coffin
has been driven in by inaction—
every thing
you didn’t do,
every promise
you made
and broke,
every emotion
you gave me
and took back again—
they’ve
finally sealed you
into that box.
The pallbearers
will see you
to your final resting place
in the rolling green hills
of my mossy heart,
with all the others
who were interred
for disappointing me.
You’re in plenty
of ham-fisted company
and one of the lucky last
in fact.
Next week
in the interest of conserving space
I’m switching to cremation.
Satiated
Do you remember that time
I cooked you dinner?
Chicken and rice.
Plantains and warm bread.
We ate and drank
and had a fight
and then
you fucked me
so long and hard
we forgot all about
dessert.

When were these composed, Helena? Recent? (Beautiful, btw. But that's par for this course.)
I need to learn to make dessert. I always cook great big first and main courses, with no dessert, and then, afterwards, we collapse on the couch and digest slowly. Nobody really enjoys hard, long fucking on a full stomach. Clearly I've planned my dates poorly.
Posted by: Wade on September 12, 2005 09:43 PMAJ, composed this morning about two minutes before I posted 'em. And thanks.
Wade, I think the key is to eat light. In this case, there was also an intermission. The fight was on the long side.
CB, Mission accomplished!! If everyone feels just a little bit dirtier, I'll sleep soundly tonight.

I liked this image very much:
