In the last dream I had before I woke up today, the final image was burned into my mind as I crossed into consciousness. I rolled over and grabbed the pen and notebook by the bed.
In the dark, I wrote:
backpack optimism
And before I go to bed again, before I forget it, here's what I meant.
I don't know how old I was, but in the dream I was just about to start the school year. I had a brand new backpack I'd just unzipped. It was black and purple, high tech looking, with the smell of newness all over it, and bits of tissue paper still tucked here and there.
Opening the flaps wide, I took stock of all the pockets and compartments, thinking of the wonderful things I'd put in them. A feeling of energy and hope washed over me. Then I woke up, with that feeling intact.
Optimistic as a brand new backpack, waiting to be filled.

I love this! Fall is my favorite time of year ... not just for the cool, crisp air and changing leaves, but because I remember the feeling I had when I'd just start school, with new backpack in hand, and all this promise in my heart. I miss school, if for no other reason than the first day. Every day following I could do without tho :)
Posted by: cookiebitch on September 28, 2005 06:42 AMTotally the best time of year. I would always be SO excited to go back to school, with that new backpack, to see the new kids in class, get all my new books and put my name in them. I wish I could find something the rejuvenating now...New Years is a good one, I clean out my closets and try to "start fresh," but not quite the same.
Posted by: Helena on September 28, 2005 10:22 AMI miss getting school supplies every year. Mostly the Trapper Keeper. It was always so great to buy (or have my mom buy, actually) a brand-new one, which I'd fill with crispy new folders, lined paper and a pencil holder...and would then use for about two days.
Posted by: Sandra on September 28, 2005 10:29 AMI got my PhD in psychology of a box of Fruit Loops, but I watched Dr. Phil once... the correct interpretation of your dream is that by unzipping - my leg hurts - nevermind.
Posted by: Eddie on September 28, 2005 06:17 PMWell I don’t have a PHD and haven’t caught an episode of Dr. Phil but I think it would be safe to say I’m not the first to call you an obnoxious ass!
Posted by: Marina on September 28, 2005 08:43 PMEddie:
Cuban "juju" coming your way!
Don't say I did no tell you so!!!
Marina
So that you "enrich" your knowledge of us Cubans... an obnoxious ass translates as a COMEMIERDA in Cuban. (Which literally means "shit eater")

Tipsy.
Helena:
Is there "call block" on your web?

Damn! I have like a whole army. I will never be afraid of anything, ever again.
In Eddie's defense, I should say that he clarified to me that "if I ever come across as mean, it's not intentional. I do have a harsh sense of humor that may not always translate properly through a comment."
*sigh* Eddie, you might need some extra flowers.
Posted by: Helena on September 28, 2005 10:53 PMBottom line, if you are a big enough boy to dish it then you need to be a big enough boy to take it.
Helena: You are much too nice! We need to work on that.
Tipsy: Thanks for the enrichment; I have made a mental note :)
new backpacks are world changers, and when they start to break apart, just as world changing back again.
