Blood and Guts: Helena Lazaro
In My Closet
October 5, 2005 12:18 PM

Thanks to Groonk, I've now been sucked into the melee that is the Closet Tag.

If you haven't heard about this Tag, it simply involves me detailing the contents of my closet, then tagging some other unfortunate souls. Mwahaha. I'm already drunk with power!

And now, without further hoohah, here is my stuff!

I have one closet and one freestanding storage for all my clothing/accessories/life. When I lived with him, Adam once described my closet in the following manner: "It looks like Janis Joplin threw up in here." And I guess he's right. I do organize it by era.

In my closet, I found:

Two electric typewriters

Boxes full of vintage fabrics from when I took up sewing

Boxes full of jewelry bits from when I took up jewelry-making

Various freaky vintage dresses, skirts, and shirts, many of which I've never worn but refuse to get rid of because I MIGHT wear them and I DON'T want someone else to have them

Including my "Optical Illusion" skirts and shirts, which make onlookers dizzy when I walk

...and my Mermaid Shirt, one of my most favorite things that I can never wear, because it is so old that the lining is deteriorating

...and my Animal Cruelty suede and fur jacket. It is the height of vintage gorgeousness and opulence, but I cannot wear it in good conscience for obvious reasons. It weighs about ten pounds, the suede is thick and chocolate brown, the lining is a matching satin. MY GOD is feels good. Alas, it appears that the item Janis would be most fond of will be forever trapped in my closet. Still, how could I ever part with it?

The memory box I made, constructed from various pieces of clothing and fabric that had sentimental value. It's where I keep things I can't throw away, but hurt too much to look at

The other rack contains my nauseating collection of old and new purses, scarves, and hats

Ok! Now it's my turn to tag! I choose Claire, Jewels, Ceity, and Rina.

Ahahahaha! That's what you get for being nice and leaving me the most comments!

Is that Mermaid Skirt like a shimmy skirt?

You know, Tina Turner style. Before Ike was given the boot.

"Big wheels keep on turning,
Proud mary keep on burning.
Do whoop toot toot toot
toot toot toot toot"

It's actually a tank, even older than that, more like a glamour girl at the Copa Cabana.

But yeah, no matter what I say, it totally looks like a skirt, and like leggy Tina should be making the fringe swing.

Doh! I don't even think of it as >my< closet, so I'm not sure quite what's stuffing it to the gills in places. Hmm...will have to get back to you on that.

Ah! You tagged me....I can't believe it. I have been accepted - that makes me so happy!!

You don't need pictures do you?? And do I have to choose just one closet? Oh no, my eye is starting to twich from the stress.....need to go lay down

Your closets are much more organized than I figured for such a wild-hearted person as yourself.

i'm so jealous you have a mermaid shirt and all those purses. ;-)

are you sure you can't stitch a new lining into it?

such vivid patterns, completely expected from such a delicious blogger.

will have pictures of my closet when i get home from school later tonight!

Claire, Jewels, Ceity, I'm glad you're being such good sports! Let me know when you're done so I can add little links to your closet entries.

Neil, I am FULL of surprises. You should know that by now.

OH! And I forgot to mention, the closet IS organized.

BY ERA.

I have a memory box in my closet. It's more manly than yours, as are my purses, but I feel the same way about the things inside. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Did I say purses? How silly. I meant to say tool belts. Really.

THERE'S an idea for a tag.

What's in your memory box?

I think that would yield the kind of soul-spilling results I'm looking for in a meme or tag.

Hmmm...

In theory it's done, been done a few hours even... damn blogger with its early evening maintenance preventing me from posting it for now though.

well, hallelujah- it just worked, and after fighting with the formatting (never so many pictures again- at least not with interspersed text), I'm willing to call it DONE.

I am so jealous of your clothes. I have no mermaid skirt and feel less of a woman because of it.

I'm happy to see that your closet is full of colors, just like it's owner!

Btw. the whole tagging business has spread further than anyone could have imagined, I say no more...
