Blood and Guts: Helena Lazaro
I'm not the one who said it!

Her Cloud had a Mink Lining
This woman I knew in college
her mother died and left her
a life insurance windfall
She dropped out of her classes
left her drunk mechanic husband
and started a love affair
with some Native American
grocery boy
He would come be
her kept man
and they compared braids
to see whose was longest
She bought herself furs
and a diamond ring
so big and gaudy
that it looked fake
She wore
those furs and diamonds
to the same old dives
in Long Beach
looking every bit
as much a cheap whore
as she did
before the money
One night drunk
she told me
Cancer's not all bad.
