Blood and Guts: Helena Lazaro
Yes, I AM being a Gloomy Gus.
March 8, 2006 01:13 AM
nights
in my youth
when each night
was a firework
(each lipstick kiss
each sequin sigh
each chiffon caress of breath
from my lips
had the glimmer of hope
the smoothness of innocence
and the sweet warmth of beginning)
you collected them
from me
like diamonds
plucked them all up
in time
hid them away
amid the shadows
of your dark
wrinkled hands
and in their place
left
a dull icicle garden
where
the kisses
the sighs
the breath
from my lips
all curl away
like smoke

I always liked the name "Gus".
what great imagery! i particularly like the beginning- "sequin sigh" is awesome.
