Off to a good start

Well, every once in a while I have a good excuse for being a bad friend and blogger. This is one of those times! Since the first of the year I have accepted a new job (doing freelance production work for MTV again) and decided to move. I didn't want to jinx these things so, until both were set in stone, I refrained from gabbing about them too much. I start the new job tomorrow, and I signed the lease on the new apartment this weekend. I'm excited about both, but the apartment has really got me worked up. It's an awesome place in Eagle Rock (a neighborhood of Los Angeles, between Hollywood and Pasadena is the best way I can describe it to non-Angelenos). It's a two-bedroom on a hill (the bottom half of a duplex) with hardwood floors in the living room, and a storage room. STORAGE! A concept so long-forgotten that I thought it must have been a figment of my imagination. But the best part is the beautiful outdoor patio, with a stone fireplace, a grill, and a fish pond! A POND! I'm sorry about all the yelling, but after living in a glorified box for two years, finding a place that will be more like a home is really meaningful. It has me feeling all domestic. Visions of the great midcentury furniture I'm going to buy are dancing through my head. Hell, I even cooked tonight! And there wasn't a boy for miles around!

I am hoping for some decorating advice on the really bad 70's bathroom. The kitchen cabinets are pretty corny too. There had to be a trade-off for that hardwood floor and hillside retreat vibe, I guess. Any suggestions? Pictures of the rest follow.

Moved? Now you're in my neck of the woods. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Place looks great! And a new job! Jeese! Moving right along there. I always like your old place, but I think it was your "touch" that gave it the right vibe. Can't wait to see what you do with the new place. :)

Yay!! The place sounds awesome. And, hey, at least you have a handicapped bar in your bathroom. I've no idea why that's a good thing. Please don't ask. But those floors are BEAUTIFUL!

Great fun isn't it! My bed arrived this morning, and my blinds were also fitted - at this rate I might actually end up with a REAL place to live! Hurrah for change!

Great! I'm happy for you (though I would have been happier had you come to New Zealand... sigh...)
I hope the job and the new place are exactly what you want and that happiness is yours for a very long time.
As for the 70's bathroom, I suggest strobe lights, shag carpet and a mirror ball... just sayin'...
OH! We have some beautiful pictures of NZ and I'll send some along to you. I'm also pimping hell out of Chubby Bunny to my friends here in Auckland, so I hope some biz comes your way.
Take care, beautiful!

Congratulations on your new move. Hope all goes well with the latest tour of duty for MTV.

Shameless plug:
I'm hosting a once-a-month
third-Thursday poetry reading at
Coffee Junction in Tarzana.
More info can be found at
http://www.coffeejunction.com

Starts February 15th at 7:00 p.m. Signups at 6:30.

A long time ago when I lived in Glendale, I would go to Eagle Rock Plaza to shop--occasionally, I'd do laundry at the shopping center on Eagle Rock Blvd. a couple of blocks of Colorado Blvd. This was all pre-gentrification.

Anyway, all the best to you in this new chapter of life.

Aw, thanks guys! I wish that I could have you all there for my housewarming. Maybe I'll do a virtual one :)

Don't remember if it's Casa Blanca Pizza or Casa Bianca, but it's supposed to be a good place to eat in ER.

Again, hope you enjoy your new hometown.

Congratulations! You deserve it. Best of luck to you on the new gig and digs.

I had white cabinets like that once, and I thought I would hate them--but I loved them! They clean up nice, and best of all? They are a totally open spot for taping on pictures, poems, artwork.
I'm just sayin'.

I have kids, and I filled them over with great paintings in display.

The new place looks beautiful--Congrats!
